When you’re a college student who shows up to work after class at 4pm, and your comic is due at 6pm, it’s very tempting to work in a character that takes 30 seconds to draw.
This simple fact led to 1) Gordon eventually becoming the main character, 2) Hale the Snail becoming the second main character a year later, and 3) the final storyline of Blue Rice at the end of Year Three, when talking specks of dust were taking over the strip because they took so little time to draw.
