Thompson's appearance changed a bit between his first appearance and his second, but remained fairly consistent from here on out.
Around this time I was trying some new things in the strip, e.g. leaving out the border in panel 2, using lowercase font in speech balloons, playing with line thicknesses on character renderings. Oh, and all the drugs.
