This strip was the first of a new semester, right after winter break. Besides practicing my drawing (and growing out Crouton’s hair), I had spent that monthlong vacation retooling the strip, trying to focus on character interaction instead of pun-driven story arcs.
My main inspirations were not comics at all, but TV shows like Seinfeld and Friends—I felt that if you build characters that people care about, you can put them in any situation and they’ll just write themselves. I was right.
